Position Summary

The Environmental Health Specialist Intern provides support to Guthrie County Health Services in the areas of environmental health inspection, documentation, and administrative assistance. This position is primarily responsible for conducting cursory septic system inspections at Lake Panorama and several surrounding communities within Guthrie County.

The intern will work independently in the field and assist with data entry, recordkeeping, and general office support functions as assigned.

Essential Functions

The following duties are representative of the work required for this position and are not intended to be all-inclusive:

  • Conduct cursory septic system inspections in designated areas
  • Accurately document and record inspection findings
  • Enter inspection data into appropriate databases and tracking systems
  • Assist with data entry for special projects as assigned
  • Provide limited administrative support, including answering phones as needed
  • Maintain professional communication with property owners and members of the public
  • Travel independently to inspection sites throughout the county

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during Summer 2026
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Basic computer proficiency

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft Excel
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS or other geographic information systems
  • Interest in environmental health, public health, or a related field

  • Strong attention to detail and accurate recordkeeping skills

  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds

This position involves a combination of office and field work. Field work will be conducted primarily outdoors and may require working independently at remote sites within the county.
