2012 Fall Colloquium - Communicating the Value of Public Health
Effectively communicating the value of public health to elected officials, key stakeholders, and community members is vital to fulfilling public health’s mission. As Senator Tom Harkin noted in the Spring 2012 NACCHO Exchange, “One of the greatest challenges right now is putting a face to public health… Make the case that [public health] is a cardinal function of government to help people live longer, safer, healthier lives.” The 2012 Fall Colloquium will engage participants in a dynamic discussion of contemporary communication strategies and methods.
One of the featured speakers will be Ms. Laura Hanen, MPP, Government and Public Affairs Director, National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO). Additional speakers will include state and local public health practitioners who will share their experiences and best practices.
Additionally, at this event, the recipients of the Inaugural Public Health Heroes Award will be announced.
College of Public Health graduate students are encouraged to attend this event. There will be opportunities during the reception for networking and discussing practice-based opportunities with a wide range of public health partners and practitioners.
