This two-day training course is ideal for community health workers, case managers, and health educators who want training in both the healthy housing principles and how to assess homes for basic hazards and concerns. The training will help you understand the connection between health and housing, and how to assess for and prioritize basic housing hazards and educate home occupants on practical solutions. The goal of healthy homes training is to take a holistic approach to identify and resolve problems that threaten the health and well-being of residents. On the first day of training we will provide an overview of the eight healthy housing principles and how they represent an effective strategy for understanding latest knowledge about how to manage, health and safety hazards. On the second day we will discuss the how to collect an environmental history from a client, and how to communicate and educate about healthy home concerns. The course includes different practice home assessment scenarios using real home examples. IMPORTANT: Because of the current pandemic crisis this course is being offered on-line only. All activity will be through an interactive web portal. Once you register and provide an email, course details and a web link to attend the course will be provided.
The course is a collaboration between Children’s Mercy Kansas City, the Mid-America PEHSU, and EPA Region 7 Office of Child Protection. The goal of these training courses is to train and prepare the workforce to provide the best healthy home education for positive health outcomes.
